About the Life Gets Better Scholarship
- The Life-Gets-Better and Thurgood Marshall Programs were conceived and designed by former President Frederick S. Humphries in 1986 “to capture and recruit the best and brightest African American students in partnership with corporate America.” These students were designated as National Achievement, Merit Finalists and Scholars by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. In response to “A Nation at Risk”, he conceived the Life-Gets Better Program (LGB), a unique industry-sponsored, full scholarship program for these students at Florida A&M University majoring in Engineering, Physical, Life, Natural and Computer Sciences and Pre-Law.
Eligibility Requirements
- • Must major in the following fields: Engineering, Physical and Life Natural, Computer Science programs
• Must earn a standard U.S. high school diploma or its equivalency
• Must be a 2017 National Merit® Finalist or Scholar
• Must have 1440 on the redesigned SAT or a 32 on the ACT. Must earn a 700* on the SAT math section or 30* on the ACT Math subject area
• Must have a 3.5 FAMU recalculated GPA
• Must be admitted into Engineering, Physical, Life, Natural and Computer Sciences programs
• Must earn a minimum score of 76 on the ALEKS Math exam
• Must have received: National Merit® $2500 Scholarship, (b) a Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship, or (c) a College-sponsored Merit Scholarship. NOTE: “Special” Corporate Scholarships do not qualify students for the Benacquisto Scholarship
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
